The British Benevolent Society

Kathleen Kimura, MBE; :President of the British Benevolent Society.  Kathleen has worked with Tokyo Express Co., Inc. for over 30 years.She was re-elected president of the British Benevolent Society in 2012 and has served on the board on and off since 2001.She serves on the board of the Japan Society of Northern California, and served as president (1995-97). She serves on the board of British American Business Council (BABC) Northern California and served as President and Chairman (2001-2008). Kathleen also serves on the executive committee of BABC bi-lateral as the BABC regional representative for the western region.In addition, she serves on the board of the Ladies of the San Francisco Consular Corps and on their US Support Committee; is co-chair of the San Francisco-Osaka Sister City Association; is chair of the Millbrae Japanese Culture Festival Committee; serves on the Millbrae Sister Cities Commission and on the board of NORCAL Sister Cities International. Affiliations include The Japan Society, London.  Kathleen is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and was awarded an MBE by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth in 2006, and received the Foreign Minister of Japan’s 2013 Award.

Karen Thomas, Vice President of the British Benevolent Society, spent the major part of her career at the British Consulate General, San Francisco and retired in January 2012 after 29 years of service. As Vice Consul (Management/Consular) and later Head of Corporate Services, Karen ran the management, human resources, facilities, property management, procurement, budget and consular services and worked closely with the British Benevolent Society for many years to assist and help the British nationals that needed assistance. Karen is now Chair of the Events Committee and serves on the Finance & By-laws Committees. Since 2012 Karen has been working with Gorin Events & Communications helping the principal, Mimi Gorin organize major corporate events within the U.S., and overseas. Karen also volunteers at Guide Dogs for the Blind helping with fund raising events

Susan Goodier is the Executive Assistant of the British Benevolent Society.


She manages and coordinates the membership, Board meetings, day to day enquiries and all administrative requirements to ensure the efficient functioning of the charity.


We are looking forward to Susan's work with the St Andrew's Society in this capacity in the coming months.
